Night Out

Last night, Hubby and I went to a benefit at Socrates Sculpture Park.

Watching the sunset over my city saved me from cursing out cabbies,
whilst stuck in a traffic jam at the Greenpoint Ave. exit.

Growing up here, I never really stopped to think about the miles of
cemetery that line the entrance to Manhattan.
Now, I think about it. Especially with the Financial District looming overhead.

By the time I picked-up the hubby and we arrived at the benefit,
it was too dark to shoot the exhibit.

But we mingled, snacked and drank some drinks.

View of midtown Manhattan from long Island City.

Tea Time

Every once in awhile, one of these speaks to me...

Life is a chance.
Love is infinity.
Grace is reality.

Moody Monday 9/22/08

It worries me to write this, because we all know what happened the last time I complained...
but there hasn't been ANY rain for days and days.
I have no new rain pics. No aliens, no sprites.

All I've got is sunshine, songs, tea towels and the usual slightly abused baby goat.

Please write a caption for this one...

Typesetting

Call me sentimental, but I will always have an appreciation for
people who still set type by hand.

Hi from Mina

You guys already know how much I love Mina.
She's the sweetest 96 year old lady I've ever met.
Lately she hasn't been feeling too well, but it hasn't stopped her
from coming out at 3pm to see the parade of kids
get off the school bus.

Here's a pouch she made to hold a little mad money for my varmints.
I cherish the care she takes in everything does.
If she knew what the internet was, she'd scold me for showing some cane in the above pic.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

"Why are humans so short and sticky?"

This is NOT a Food Blog...

but if it WAS, I would write a review of this amazing place
where I had my birthday dinner last night.
we noticed a beautiful quiet place to have drinks by a window.
It's an italian restaurant, in a warehouse, called Sapori D'Ischia.

The inside was designed italian deli style. Imported yummies lined these festive shelves.
The tables were dressed in white linens and lit with candles.
Everything was lit with candles.

We ordered a cod appetizer and a seafood/pesto pizza.
It was the best italian food we have EVER had in our entire lives.

Good thing this isn't a food blog.

Please Bear with Me...

...I'm getting ALL the bugs out of my system.

Moody Monday 9/15/08

This is a stormy view, looking south down our street.
I love the telephone wires. And the fact that our street has
concrete running down the middle, instead of blacktop.

Lady Bug, Lady Bug

"Ladybug ladybug fly away home,
Your house is on fire and your children are gone,
All except one and that's little Ann,
For she crept under the frying pan."

I Swallowed the Fly to Catch the...

Spider.
Because overnight, it repo'd my minivan.

Not Martha

When I lived in the West Village, I often went to Fishs Eddy,
hunting for treasure.
It's a dishware joint, where you can buy odds and ends from custom dishes made for restaurants, hotels, dining cars, etc. (Now it's become so huge, that you can register there for your wedding.) One day, while I was hunting through dish piles, I found plates from the Diner back home.
This was the Diner we often invaded before sunrise.
Where we would torture the waitresses by ordering "Eggs Any Style."
It brings me such joy to serve my kids breakfast on the very plates we sobered-up on as teenagers.

Moody Monday: Hurricane

It started out pretty tame.
Then as the night wore on, it got a little crazy.
You knew I'd be out in this storm, right?

I couldn't stop myself.

And NO, I was NOT driving the car this time.

but I DID drag the whole family with me.
it was a night to remember.
the aliens and sprites were in rare form.

and I was SO happy that I caught them in action.
