Three Lovelies...

...from my mother-in-law's house.

This one has similar shapes as the one above it. I wonder if it's from the same artist.

THIS is how my hubby learned to tell time :-)

Coffee Talk Part 2 (en espanol)

I'm not one to brag, but just look at this month's coffee table installation! Daughter O' Mine did this lovely model livingroom set, completely on her own, with absolutely no art direction from me. Table, love seats, & chez, all made from Dora Dominos. The outside pieces are the sleeping bags for the invisible people. Not bad, for a 5 yr old, huh?

Flirty Chair on Porch

On a walk with T, we decided to go in the opposite direction. It was amazing how many new things we saw by walking the OTHER way. Like this chair for example. Of course, I wanted to shoot it immediately, but all I had was my phone camera. So today, we set out once more, in the opposite direction. I am in love with this chair. It speaks to me. If only I had the balls to trespass, I could have had a closer look. *sigh*

On My Walk Today: 4.24.08

Spring has arrived... even in the far reaches of the cemetary behind the Rite Aid. Can you believe we have a cemetary like this behind a Rite Aid?

50's Silver Manual

I found this beauty at the bottom of my mother-in-law's silverware box. If I could go back in time, I'd go straight to the kitchen drawer that had all the how-to manuals & bring them back here, where they'd all be esteemed & appreciated.

What would YOU say?

What would you say if you found a robin's egg on a lawn, 15 ft. from the nearest tree?

Collage as Inspiration

It's hard staying inspired when you work alone. Especially when you've spent most of your career yelling things over the wall into the next cube. Here are 2 inspirational quotes that I re-created in collage form. They remind me of what I'm doing here.

Collage as Life Plan

It was March, 1997. I was freshly laid-off from my Big Job at The Big Famous Publishing Co., and I needed answers to some of life's biggest questions,
like: WTF am I going to do to pay the rent on my overpriced west village apartment??!!!! Am I supposed to be doing what I'm doing? Is the Universe telling me something?? WIll I ever get married & have varmints of my own? If I dropped dead suddenly, how long would it take someone to find me, if I don't have an office to report to? WILL I BE OK?

Relief came in the form of art, of course. An upstairs neighbor asked me to do a collage, to meditate over what I might want my life to be like. Here is what she wrote: "....the collage should include what you want to bring into your life, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. Look for pictures that talk to your heart... do not pick from your mind. You may be surprised at what you pick."

Here is what I did, on that fateful day. Exactly 11 years later, all of my questions have been answered, and all of my images have been coaxed & weaved into the reality of my life. I encourage all of you to do the same. Seriously. It's way cheaper that therapy! Email me pics, & I'll post them here.

Desk-side Inspiration

I often change the objects in this box to suit my mood.
Today, I feel zesty.

I Almost Blogged Today.

I think i have bloggers block. Bloggers clog? And it's not like i'm not constantly surrounded by beautiful & inspiring things. Maybe it's spring fever? Hoping the spell breaks before tomorrow...

Moveable Art

I've been letting the varmints decorate the coffee table every month. It makes them SO proud. And it lends a home for lost Barbie shoes.

Spring is Here!

I know with a headline like that, you expect to see something crocusy, or daffodillish. But what about the weeds? They work just as hard to spring up, as the fancy plants do. In some cases, they work even harder...

Word on the Street 4.4.08

I must have walked past this hydrant 12,763 times, before I stopped & realized that it says: OPEN DARLING.

Influence of Light & Shadow

Not to mention the importance of a solid grid ;-)

Empty Canvas

Look at this lamp... it's one of a pair, mid-century, rescued from my mother-in-law, re-wired, etc. See this new linen-covered shade that i bought 3 months ago? The one that still has the cellophane on it? I haven't found a decent medium to draw on it with! I found some beautiful mettalic pens & markers, but the liquid spreads out on the fabric. Any suggestions from you brilliant & crafty folk out there? I can't just leave them white, they are taunting me EVERY time i walk past them.
