How to Be a Yenta, Part 1

1) The first step to being a Yenta, is admitting that you're a Yenta.
There's nothing wrong with that.

2) I suggest living on a street where all the houses are close together.
Preferably in a small town.

3) Stop and say hi to all your neighbors... "Hi Heather!"
In fact, say hi to everyone who you pass on the street.
Then when you travel into the big city, or other towns and cities,
it will shock you how many people do NOT say hello.

4) Take surveillance pictures whenever you can.

5) Write down all the facts in your journal. (or blog)

6) Become friends with the people at your local hardware store.

7) Hang out at the local Hair Salon or Barber Shop.
These people know EVERYTHING about everybody.
(And they often have free coffee & baked goods.)
This is Ilene. Between the two of us, we rule this town.

8) Get involved. In as many dramas as you can.

9) Lastly, teach your children how to be Yentas.
This one is here to take over for me when I'm gone.

Good luck, everyone!

Alpha Sky 7

I was waiting for Magpie on the wrong corner,
when I shot this 7 from the hip.

Dear Varmints...

When I first met your father, it was probably 1972.
I'm not really sure.
Basically, we were in day camp,
and although we were friends with many of the same people,
we ignored each other for the next 2 & 1/2 decades.

Daddy likes to say it's because I was "afraid of the ball."
Whatever.

Here he is looking all cool with his dimple & that fishing hat.

In 1999, your father and I met again, at Elena's wedding.
He was seated at my table, and then proceeded to
wow me with this opening line:

"So. I hear you do yoga."

After we talked the night away,
he offered me a ride back to the city.
By way of coney Island.

(pic swiped from Brad.)

Almost exactly one year later, we were married.
(10 years ago, today.)

You don't know this yet,
but Varmints, let me tell you:
Marriage is a lot more commitment and compromise
than you could ever imagine.

Kinda like our platinum wedding bands.
See the tiny nicks & scratches that happen along the way?
They make the metal more beautiful, and they give it more depth,
but it's still just as strong.

Even through 3.a.m feedings...

Lay-offs, black-outs, floods, kitchen ants,
and some other tiny surprises the universe threw our way.

But more importantly, you should know that Daddy and I
feel blessed to still be together after all this time,
and that we love sharing our lives with you.

Love, Mama & Dada

Separated at Birth?

I'm preparing a post for our 10th anniversary tomorrow,
and as I go through the hubby pics, it never ceases to amaze me,
how much he looks like actor J.K. Simmons.
(the Dad in Juno, the boss on Spiderman, etc.)

Hubby:

Because of You

I found this gold/glass platter at the Thrift Store today.
It was $7.
My Mother has the same exact one at her house, far, far away.
And even though I'll likely have 2 of these some day,
I couldn't resist buying it.
It's Magpie's fault.
