Art School Sketchbook: The Pressure

Seriously.

*Ed Note: the roses were a find that was left behind in the media workshop garbage. I should explain that back then, we horded things like xeroxes of fonts, architecture mags, letraset, color swatches, paper samples, and SO much more. In later posts, I will delve more into how we presented our design projects without the use of computers.

Art School Sketchbook: Intro

Digging into my old journals, has me craving my Art School sketchbooks....

(click pic to zoom.)
There is SO much content in each page, that it's hard to choose which ones to show you.
For example, this page has notes from the person sitting next to me:
"Would you like to go to the poster show together, Oct. 21?"
My response: "I'd like to, but I can't plan that far ahead."
WTF!? Why couldn't I just say YES? If someone asked me NOW, I'd certainly say YES.
I wish I could go back in time to so many of my no's & change them to YES.

There's also a simple line drawing I did of our teacher, (who I might have bad-mouthed at some point)
leading this other person to defend her.

And the question that has been answered, finally, all these decades later:
"Artists NEVER buy pens– then where do they get them from?"
They steal them.

Graphic Design Trix

This is my favorite new trick.
It's a website that shows you your selection of text in every font that's open on your system.
How groovy is THAT?

The Journals Part 1

I have a box of journals... maybe 40-50 of them.

I started keeping them from the year I turned 15, until the year I moved in with Hubby.
20 years of my life is recorded, described, and inscribed in here.

Though I was inspired to photograph them, I wasn't prepared to see them.
Or read them.
It's as though the emotional content had a voice... and this voice was so loud,
that my head exploded.

So I decided to put everything back inside until I'm ready to open them one at a time.
to be continued....

Calm Mom Flash Cards

One of my most faboo bloggie friends gifted me with this groovy swivel notebook.

I decided to make flash cards for the kids. (Well... really for ME.)

These save me from having to say the same things over & over again.

All I do is point to the page that corresponds to the situation at hand.

It's working for now...

But I have a feeling the novelty will wear off really, really soon.

The Dreaded Eyelash Bug

AKA: House Centipede. (small-medium sized)
Click pic to see close-up.

This is the LARGE-SIZED House Centipede, which I filmed 2 years ago.
The eyelash disguise is NOT working in either of these instances.

Note from Mina

Hello!
The bread was so delicious. Try it with a little cream cheese
– wonderful as eating cake.
Thanks so much.

Back to the Desk

Take a look people... I found my desk!

Remember what it looked like before?

Now the question is... how do I part with all of these extremely important things?
Like that Marinated Artichoke jar.
What's on your desk?

Moody Monday: 1/5/09 Random Rain

This is from a few weeks ago.
I've got nuthin' folks.... It's been a long holiday break, and I need to catch-up on a TON of work.
When the school bus comes this morning, I'll be doing the Snoopy Dance of Happiness.

Keeping Busy...

Gotta keep those varmints busy...

especially when it's 14 degrees outside.

On New Year's Day, our only plan was to watch the chia grass grow.
So when Elena called, and asked us if she & Mr. O can come over, we were THRILLED.

She brought over a bunch of stuff to make sock puppets...

which made the varmints squeal with glee.

shot some hoops...

played some serious dominoes...

and played, and played.

For that, we are eternally grateful.
Thanks El & O!
It's been a really great year so far :-)
