The Devil is In the Details

As I wandered around my parents house on Thanksgiving,
I thought about all the details that were unique to their home.

This beautiful painting with embroidery
was in the bathroom in the house I grew up in.
In their current house, it's on prominent display.

In fact, there was embroidery everywhere.
When did women have the time to embroider things back then?

So while Dad played cards with the varmints,
I decided to do a house tour of my past.

Here's my Dad surrounded by his own varmints.
We were drowning in Huck-a-poo.
(nice cleavage, mom!)

Mom looking elegant in a long fitted plaid robe.

She named this dude "Hung Lo."
He still hangs out over the dining room table.

In this pic, I was obviously teething.
Why was I so happy?
I'm pretty sure they gave me a shot of cherry schnapps.

This was my kindergarten boyfriend.
Here he is holding my hand & whispering
naughty things to me before school.

This was the awkward phase.
Notice the bad hair, braces & yes, more embroidery.
We got that ski jacket on sale at Syms.

This is abdullah. He's made of some fancy hollow wood.
We always wondered if there were jewels hidden inside him.
Or drugs.

LOVE this old tile table.
When I was 3, I played a game where the yellow tiles
were scrambled eggs, for each place setting.

Here's my brother.
He convinced me that there
was a space elevator in his closet.
He often came back from space with cookies.

Beautiful tour of your childhood. My parents have moved so much and gotten rid of all of our childhood stuff. I love looking of pictures back in the day!

This is pretty hysterical.

I am a little disappointed that you didn't point out the tile "L" for your alphabet series, though. ;-)

When will we ever have a "time travel" machine...love going back in time and seeing all you in all your glory and the snippets from your home. Great sense of family.

Oh Heid! Abdullah! Wasn't he always at the top of the stairs, like where your mom is in that pic? btw, you do not look akward - you look adorable. I remember that your mom kept Ande's chocolates on the livingroom table and I would eat them (more than my share - for sure!) What a great walk down memory lane.

Not sure I should follow the last comment ( TMI ) but Abdullah is so cool - I'm sure he's saying drugs, jewels, "What-ever!"
