ThankQs

Some late but much felt thank-you's....

Thinking I might frame these,
or the varmints will have their way with them.
Bunny bunny!!!

Thanks Magpie...
These lovelies match the
avocado floor in my circa 1960 kitchen.
You will ALWAYS have a place to crash in PW.

Thanks for the shawl Mina!
I know you have a crush on the Hubby, & I still love you anyway.
Maybe it makes me love you a lil bit more.

From the Frying Pan into the Fire

90 degree heat on saturday afternoon,
and an electrical fire broke out on Main Street.

I took pics NOT just because I'm a yenta, (which I AM)
See, I also have the utmost respect & adoration for
our town's Police & Fire Dept.

Letter of Apology

Dear Neighbors,
The varmints asked me to tell you that they are SO sorry
for pillaging your gardens on their way to & from
Dunkin Donuts last sunday.
It won't happen again.

Mini-fruit, Color and Hi-Res Produce

When we take the varmints shopping,
we let them pick out fruits & veggies.

We do it mostly to keep them busy, but also because
it gives them this big sense of power.

For some reason lately, they've been drawn to the miniature fruit.
Like mini apples.

And these cumquats.

I can certainly understand the attraction.

it even gets to ME sometimes.
Then, the next thing I know,
instead of working, I'm shooting fruit...

...and onions.
Just LOOK at the color on this onion.

I should be working, I know.
What are YOU doing, instead of doing what you're supposed to do?
And does anyone out there need hi-res produce pics?
I know where you can find some.

Ernie Wins!!!!

When it came time to judge my Faboo Giveaway Contest, I decided to consult an expert.
Elena, who is one of my dearest friends from childhood, works in Non-Profit.
She oversees all the private and government grantwriting
and contract compliance for  *the Greyston Foundation.
Here is what she wrote:

"I like the sitter from PVE Design. Considering that "Ernie" is a sitter and cleaner, she may not have the same opportunities and resources as some of the other contestants.  Also, because of the nature of her work - non-unionized and no professional organizations to join,  - she is least likely to have health insurance and access to employment protections. She gets my vote!"

Congrats Ernie!!!! I can't wait to begin the design process!!!!
PVE, please email me so that I can get Ernie's info for the card.
Thanks to all who entered,
and please stay tuned for more Faboo Giveaways!

*Greyston Foundation was founded in 1987 by Roshi Bernie Glassman, a Buddhist Monk.  They support Yonkers residents on their path to self-determination through Child Care, Youth Programs, Workforce Development, Housing and Health Services for people with HIV and AIDS, supported low income housing for individuals and families, Community Gardens, and perhaps most notably, the Greyston Bakery, which makes the brownies for Ben and Jerry's!

Lady in Red

Cath & I were admiring this lady on 6th ave.

I took her home to hang with Mina,
who is doing faboo, by the way!

When we were done,
we put her right back where we found her.
I swear.

Somehow, I won 5 giveaways in the span of just 1 year.

I've decided to Pay it Forward.

A Sign...

I didn't realize that THIS is what I was looking for in the rain...

And below is something I never expected to find in the sun.

Moody Monday 4/6/09

Similar to last weeks' swan pic,
these were taken in the same location, at the same time, 1 week later.
It might look like a vacation pic,
but truthfully, I shot it in the middle of running errands
on a thursday afternoon.

Kitchen Floor

This avocado-green linoleum floor was glued to this house in 1960.
I wonder how many children have played on it since then.
While mama cooked dinner, or daddy made pancakes...
How many snippets of conversation does this floor remember?
"...I think I'm 6 weeks late."
"I was laid-off at work today."
"Mama, I don't feel goo...blaaaaargh $#*yrh##!!!"

p.s... this is not one of MY varmints. We're not quite as color coordinated.
But we go back a loooong way.... back to when she was measured in pixels :-)

Time Machine

Lately, Facebook and linkedin.com have been bringing
memories to the surface, from long ago and faraway.
............
At dinner the other night, (with old friends from high school)
there were phrases thrown around that I hadn't heard in years:
"Melon Balls!"
"Bell Café."
"Herb Salad."
"Salad? Not brownies? Yes. Salad."
"Wo Hops!"
Mrs. L: "Honey, don't we still have that salad bowl up in the attic?"
Mr. L: "Yup."

Here it is.... it's a Legend. And it's beautiful.
(floor stand included.)
